Which sewing machine is better quality and which model is good for a beginner?

May 17th, 2012

I want to stArt designing and making clothing pieces( i bought pattern books in amazon) but I need a very good sewing machine that is simple to use, since I have absolute NO experience in sewing. I want a very good quality Sewing machine that last for years. Which brand and model do you recommend Juki, Jerome, Singer, Brother, etc?

=== 1st the SINGER [[ they have been around for many years ]] and 2nd the Brother [[ it has good features and is dependable ]] === I suggest that you go to the nearest fabric store and talk to the shoppers [[ maybe make some new friends, too ]] …. You might get a Walmart credit card and put a very good machine on the monthly pay schedule …. you can earn the money to pay for a good mach. by selling aprons and hot pads and kitchen towels to your friends and neighbors … work it …

How could i interprate a family tree into textiles?

May 17th, 2012

For my new GCSE project in textiles we got to choose sort of themes, like animals, recycling, crockery etc, to create samples to and i choose traces and what I’ve decided to do is do tracing my family tree, so i was just wondering if anyone knows any Artists that use family trees in their work, or what type of things i could put into a sample, or anything good to do with family trees and Textiles,
please help
thanks

You could make a quilt using remnants of old clothes.
Like a piece from a relative’s baby clothes, a uniform,
a favorite blanket, part of a wedding dress, etc.

Just a thought!

An intriguing combination of programmers, Artists, and philosophers, these creators embrace a process that delegates essential decisions to computers, data sets, or even random variables. This allows important metaphors to arise in their work, calling attention to the relationship between humans and the computers that surround us, the mountains of information we generate, and the powerful impact that technology has on our relationships with each other.

Where did Britain export its textiles to in large quantities and during which time period ?

May 16th, 2012

how compared to Holland or other countries for export of Textiles and why this was?

how changed after Britain’s larger cities such as Manchester took off? and was Manchester the main textile city too? why this was also?

FORGOT TO ASK….WHICH KINDS OF TEXTILES? USED FOR WHAT AND HOW EXPENSIVE IN OTHER COUNTRIES?

Europe, wool, Middle Ages, a huge source of revenue (see the Woolsack).

Manchester was Cottonopolis, following the Industrial Revolution.

What painting has soldiers walking in front of hidden native americans in a forest?

May 16th, 2012

There is a Painting of soldiers marching through a birch tree forest in the winter. If you look closely you can see Native Americans hiding among the trees behind them. I saw the picture in school but I cannot find it. Does anyone know what it is called, who painted it or where I may find a digital copy of it?

Sounds like a Bev Doolittle painting. Look here-

How long are photography courses in universities in Ecuador?

May 16th, 2012

My friend is leaving to go and live in Ecuador soon and is planning to study photography at University. How long are the courses over there? (roughly)

Thanks in advance :)

About 1cm to infinity with many lenses these days, otherwise around 1 meter to infinity for most standard 50mm lenses for 35mm photography.
Some courses fit into 50 meter buildings and some also take in 50 kilometer and larger landscape views.
Astro photograpgy courses take in many millions of light years given sufficient exposure.
Ecuadorian market traders take in quite a number of tourists who think they are getting an absolute bargain and Ecuadorian hotels take in many tourists who actually do get an absolute bargain compared to north American and European prices..
A certificate course in Photography lasts for six months or one year depending on it’s intended level of competence, a full BA degree course lasts for three years and a masters course for four years.
Here is an Ecuadorian photograph showing what might have been a 50Km+ landscape view compressed into a more usuable size by Fourrier Transforms optically produced by a lens, but grossly hindered by atmospheric effects

Lucky friend. Ecuador is a great place to be.
