What horse supplements do you need?

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Horse supplements can be a real tricky thing to understand and on top of this they can be darn expensive. Horse supplements are brilliant but a few too many people pump their horses up with horse supplements which just aren’t needed. Don’t spend anymore money than you need to so really sit down and think about horse nutrition before you think about buying anything. Is it summer or winter? If it’s summer your horse will be getting pretty much everything it needs from the grass in regards to vitamins and minerals. If you still need to think about horse nutrition and bucket feeds in the summer it’s due to your horses being underweight or having to be fed due to excessive work. If it’s winter your horse may be struggling to get it’s vitamins and minerals as the grass has stopped growing. Think about what’s best for your horse nutrition wise and only purchase what’s needed.

Horse supplements and horse nutrition feeds which are aimed at horses that compete really should only be fed to horse going out eventing two or three times a week. I compete heavily and go out every weekend to do dressage or showjumping but I don’t feed these supplements as they’d send my horses over the edge. Unless they are in very heavy work avoid these.

It coudln’t afford emptying septic tank cost ’s

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Our village is only small and we all try to give a helping hand to make sure everything looks smart and neat and that everything is taken care of. The church is taken care of mainly by the local farmer but we all try to help out if we see there is a lot of work on. The other day we saw him in the graveyard for ages and when we went to see what was wrong he said he’d found that it was time we started emptying septic tanks. I didn’t see the problem at first but obviously emptying septic tanks cost money and the church didn’t have any.

We all clubbed together to make sure that the septic tanks in the church were taken care of but this problem with the septic tanks had me thinking and I thought it would be best to stArt fund raising so that we always had plenty of money for any maintenance problems the church may have.

I’ve sold my treeless saddle to make some money

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

I had a new mare at the stArt of the spring and I’ve really gotten on well with her. She’s a lovely character and although I can imagine that she could be a handful for some people I love her to pieces and her problems only make me a better rider when I correct them. She came with tack when I had her and I thought this would be great but she cam with a treeless saddle and I just couldn’t get on with it. I had ridden in a treeless saddle a few years back and although  I hadn’t got on with it then I thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt and give it a go. I was completely wrong. I couldn’t believe how uncomfortable I thought it was on my mare.

Needless to say I replaced it quite quickly, I was having a sort out the other day and as I needed the cash I thought I may as well try to sell the treeless saddle and the swivel stirrups it came with. Although I like swivel stirrups they where far to big and a little dangerous so I’ve sell them and hopefully make a bit of money.

We’ll help her with cesspit emptying

Monday, October 24th, 2011

My mother and father have been together all through my childhood but I think they’ve finally released they’ve grown apArt and although they’ve tried to make it work it just wasn’t successful. It’s said to see but it hasn’t been a horrible break up and they believe it’s for the best. I believe that both of them will struggle to adapted to life without each other for many reasons. Not only companionship but they also looked after each other a lot.

My mother did all the cooking, cleaning and banking so my dad has never had to cook his own meal other than an odd occasion when he’s decided to put a microwave meal in. Along with this my father has always done the ‘manly jobs’ around the house such as DIY and sorting out cesspit emptying. My mother has never liked to get involved with cesspit emptying but as she will still be living in the countryside she will have a septic tank to deal with. I have for-warned my husband that we may need to deal with her septic tank as I doubt she’ll be able to cope with any jobs like this.

Icelandic safety stirrups, seriously?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

My friend goes the whole hog with everything she seems to do. She never makes do and she always seems to really get into character. We once took up tennis and like most people I used my normal trainers and some sport kit I had and then purchased a reasonable cheap tennis racket so that I could see whether I liked it. I had thought that if we really enjoy it I would then treat myself to a high quality one further down the line. My friend on the other had purchased the most expensive racket, purchase all the correct clothing such as the hat, skirt, shoes, socks etc and got into full swing in character. Needless to say we didn’t continue with tennis for long!

My friend and I have our horses in common and she recently sold her thoroughbred and then purchase an icelandic pony. As per usual she got into the swing of things and then purchase not only icelandic safety stirrups but other icelandic stirrup irons too! Although icelandic safety stirrups are a good idea she could have easily purchased the English version. She spent so much money on icelandic stirrup irons when they are designed for people in harsh weather!

My cat fell down my septic tank

Monday, October 10th, 2011

My cat means the world to me, she’s such a character that you cannot get away without loving her. She very much reminds me of a dog in characteristics for example she’ll chase the postman away when he delivers letters and she’ll greet us like a dog when we arrive home. As you’d imagine if anything happened to her I’d be lost. Well, it almost did happen when cesspit emptying took place on my property. I needed cesspit emptying so I called a local company to come out to my septic tank. The cesspit emptying company very annoyingly forgot to put the man whole cover back over the septic tank and a few days after they’d left my cat fell down there. I didn’t know they hadn’t cover the septic tank up again as I had assumed they had done everything correctly. It wasn’t until my neighbor walked past my house and heard my cat crying that we knew she was stuck down there.

As you can imagine I wasn’t very impressed at all and thought that the cesspit emptying company were useless. Needless to say not only did I make them come out and rescue my cat and put the man whole cover back on and I found another septic tank company to empty it in future. I chose thelocalseptictankco.co.uk for future as many of my friends use them as they are fantastic and very reliable and friendly.

Dressage Double Bridle ’s

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

I love my show jumping and I’ve got to say I think it’s the best equestrian discipline, I know I’m bias and there are so many people who would disagree and that’s what I love about the equestrian world; if people go competing they are so passionate about their discipline they’ll have full blown debates with people. My friend who loves dressage decided to purchase dressage double bridles for my birthday. I must admit I wasn’t impressed at first but she said that my horse has perfect moves and would do really well with dressage bridles in a test so I decided to give it a go. After some practicing in my dressage bridles we went into our first test and we did amazingly well! We were against a lot of people and we were places which was amazing. I loved my dressage bridles and I’ve got to say I did rather enjoy it.

If you’re wanting a dressage double bridle I’d strongly recommend getting one as soon as possible. You’ll love your new dressage double bridle and it’ll give you a nice variety of things to do.

Comfort Bridles and Swivel Stirrups for My New Horse

Friday, July 29th, 2011

If you’ve got a new horse you may be unsure of what tack will suit it. Although many people use whatever tack they’ve got in their tack room I would always advice against this if you can help it. All horses are different and a bit or bridle which may suit your old horse may not suit your new project. Some horses are very sensitive so putting something unfamiliar on may ruin any bond you’ve just created. To stArt off with I’d use things which are very sensitive and light, unless you know the horse is strong it will allow you to ride the horse and access whether the tack is suitable or whether something else is needed. Comfort bridles are always a good idea, they are soft on the horse and will not put pressure anyway on the face. Comfort bridles are great as they are often used in lower level dressage so having comfort bridles in your tack rooms will always come in handy.

Along with this I would also consider using things like swivel stirrups, you don’t know whether your new horse is a little spooky so the last thing you want to do is have the hassle of finding a lost stirrup whilst mounted; the extra ‘goings on’ may spook the horse further so swivel stirrups are good because you can pop your foot in the stirrup quickly and hassle free.

Different Types of Bridles Can Be Confusing!

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

When it comes to purchase a double bridle or anything similar for your horse it can all become a little confusing. There are lots of different types of bridles out there and even the most experienced horse owner can often become a little confused when it comes to the different types. If I was you I’d try to keep it as simple as possible without the hassle of looking at different types of bridles. I’d break it down into the following.

A double bridle is ideal for hunting, showing and dressage, bare in mind it’s for dressage at Novice level and above. You can obviously choose to go into a showing last in a snaffle bridle and you can use whichever bridle you wish for hunting but the typical, classical style is the double bridle.  Along with a few different types of bridles to consider is the snaffle/ cavason bridle and the flash bridle. Other than these and your double bridle I wouldn’t worry too much about all the other different types of bridles as it can very quickly become one big headache!

Equestrian Rugs the easy way

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Equestrian rugs come in a variety of sizes, types, thickness and design, it can become a little overwhelming when you’re looking for equestrian rugs. When looking for new zealand turnout rugs or other forms of equestrian rugs it’s worth bearing in mind the following so you’re going to get the perfect rug. Do you need new zealand turnout rugs for outdoor horses or do you need a stable rug? What time of year do you plan your horse to wear it’s equestrian rugs, so does it need to be a heavy or light weight rug? If it’s new zealand turnout rugs you need does it need to come with a neck?
